Building up in love

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love…
speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament,
grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:2, 15-16
I was reading this yesterday in preparation for a weekend away I am organising. Last night I confess I did not live this out; I spoke the truth, and the intention was love, but I was not gentle and humble, and feel like I served more to tear down than build up a friend of mine. I’ve been forgiven, by her and by God, but I shall work and pray harder to grow in godliness and love.
